This
is the eighth Eid of Fetr where my life has been my offering (Fetri’eh) and my
alms have been my body and soul. Is it truly the Eid of Fetr?
Is
this the Eid of desperate Muslims?
Is
it an Eid which is accompanied with torture and dictatorship, rather than
sweets and celebratory food?
Do
these Eids actually convey a message?
Is
that message an inspiration of the grace of God?
Is
that the same God who is the sum total of divinity, forgiveness and compassion?
How come there is no sign of any of that grace and charity in this religious
dictatorship? And how is it that Muslims live under the worst social, economic and faith conditions?
Why are Muslims of yesteryear, fleeing our religion today? Why have these false
claimants of spiritual laws driven people to hate religion and turn their back
on spirituality altogether?
Now,
at the beginning of my eighth year in captivity in Evin prison, I greet the
light of justice which dims evermore and I embrace a season of freedom which is
obscured by the shroud of tyranny.
I
salute all the peace-lovers whose heart beats for our weary homeland.
Where
is the promised savior whose arrival would surely wipe out the bedlam created
at the hands of these despots and wipe away the tears of the downtrodden?
Almighty,
I, whose desperate physical and psychological condition ever worsens from years
of torture, call upon you and I pray for the liberation of the innocent people
of Iran from the violence and cruelty that is being wrought upon them.
The
deprived and plundered people of Iran have endured thirty four years of Fetrs.
This Fetr, once again, under the guise of Islamic rites they continue their
shameless looting and pillaging of our nation and it’s wealth and go on
blocking our people from accessing what is rightfully theirs.
I
dream of the day our disempowered and distressed people are freed.
