Monthly report on the health situation and condition of the great teacher, Kazemeini Boroujerdi

Medical examinations

Mr. Seyed Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi is currently under treatment due to numerous illnesses which he has developed during the 11 years of imprisonment; because of the extent and the severity of his physical condition, it has only been possible to carry out diagnostic and detection procedures of his illnesses during this time, and the treatment and care stage has not started yet. During this period, various blood and urine tests, MRI, CT scans, dental examinations, ECG and electromyography ( EMG), Spine X-ray, respiratory, pulmonary and spirometry tests, ophthalmic (eye) exams were done, which are revealing of how the regime has treated this political- ideological prisoner during these eleven years.

He complains of back pain and severe pain in the legs, numbness and tingling in his hands and feet, and difficulty in walking and performing daily tasks, as well as deformation and severe oedema in the legs. The tests carried out in view of treatment consisted of an MRI of the spine and electromyography (EMG) and Nerve condition velocity (NCV) tests, as well as other tests. According to a spinal and neurosurgeon, the x-ray taken from the cervical spine, chest and back, clearly shows a severe case of arthritis, and the EMG indicates a case of polyradiculopathy. According to this doctor, pressures on the spine as a result of tortures and impacts on the area, as well as excessive forced labor and inappropriate use of the spine, have resulted in a herniated lumbar disc and spinal stenosis.

The herniated lumbar disc and the spinal stenosis are visible through the MRI; and due to the stenosis, pressure is caused on the nerves, such as the sciatica nerve, thus creating pain. Considering the MRI and NCV results, as well the severity of the stenosis, and the lumbar and cervical herniated discs, surgery is required. According to this doctor, the deformation of the legs, the numbness and tingling sensation in the organs is also related to the spinal canal issues, however the oedema in the legs denotes a serious cardiovascular or kidney problem, which should receive a complete specialized cardiovascular and kidney investigation and examination.  

Report on the security situation

The residence of Mr. Kazemeini Boroujerdi is under surveillance and supervision around the clock; at least two agents are watching the house. Mobile communications of the house are blocked, and the telephone and internet lines are frequently cut off.

The agents of the Special Court pay frequent visits to his house and threaten him and his family; and the court authorities contact him on daily basis warning him that he is under surveillance and that he should not leave the house and the city. Under these circumstances, and considering his poor physical and psychological condition, it is feared that he will be assassinated, especially given the events that are taking place these days.

Mr. Kazemeini Boroujerdi, who endured imprisonment in Towhid, Evin and the military prison of Yazd… during three decades, is still under harsh conditions, while his human and civil rights have been ruthlessly trampled on, the ruling regime considers itself as being the guardian and supreme authority over the people, and is hence not accountable with regards to these crimes and violent acts.

Nevertheless, most of those who on the other sides of the frontier are advocating for human rights and who earn their livelihood through it, do not know where the hideous Towhid prison is located, have not seen the Evin prison, and have not seen the prison operated by the Ministry of Information, never expressed a genuine support for him and his family.
